What was her reason to teach herself? To not go to school? ços maybe that will work against het if she wants to find a job in that area..not sure ofc. but can imagine that companies need to see ancertificate of osme sort when hiring people?
She wants to be an environment artist so it's ALL about having a good portfolio and knowing the software. A certificate is not valued that highly when companies would rather see samples of the work that you can do. If you're a good artist and can use all the software, they don't care too much about qualifications. If she was going into the more technical side of game design it would maybe be a little different.
In that case: You go girl!! :D

As some of you know, our daughter Storm has been working as a pastry chef for the last few years, despite almost choosing to go into game design.

Anyway, she decided at the beginning of this year that she HAD made a mistake with her career choice after all and has begun to SELF-TEACH herself to become a game environment artist (this kid does nothing the easy way!).  This has been made possible by the fact that she currently lives in a house-share with several university students who are all studying various parts of game design so she has free access to all the required software. The students quickly realised that she was working harder than THEY were and was pretty good so they drafted her in to help with their final year university project (they are allowed a limited amount of freelance help) so she ended up doing lots of props for them for their game (skeletons, bones, gravestones, foliage etc).

We knew she was artistic but what's she's taught herself in the last four months has floored us a little bit.

As Kean has said, thanks so much for doing this (and for helping me make the changes). :)

It reinforces the idea that, even though you're not playing WoW atm, you'll always be a fully committed member of the Easy family! ;) :)
