I was stunning the Sapper as well, so between us it worked well. A dk would help a lot tho.

Did some reading and some killing of this boss now so thought I'd stick some stuff down that I found out.

1) Team setup: 2 tanks 2 healers and 6 dps. (last nites group had 3 melee; druid, rogue and shamman. 3 range lock mage and hunter)

2) Little puddles: Can be soaked by a single person, avoid soaking any while on the way to the onslaught otherwise chances are your hp will too low when the onslaught hits. Do not soak if you have the debuff.

3)Twilight Onslaught: Soaked by all players, and use raid saves on a rotation for everyone, this ofc will depend on the raid, but tank 4 parts help here too.

4)Drakes: Once the melee adds are down it is possible for the melee to attack these too, just need to stand rather close to the edge to do so.

5)Sappers: A macro is a must here either with a stun straight after or an attack, it is rather hard to see them though the deck fires and as suck easy to miss them. Just one getting to through will be enough to finish the ship.

Phase 2: tank Goriona facing the front of the ship and Blackhorn facing the side, with the raid standing behind both. This means both tanks will not get hit by Goriona's breath attack. Switch at 2-3 stacks of sunder. Consuming Shroud debuff should be healed with hots, this will keep raid damage down. Burn down Goriona, and do very little damage to Blackhorn before she has flown away at 20%. Tank Blackhorn like normal only this time avoiding deck fires, have all the raid stacked behind him. If everyone is alive at this point there should be no problems finishing the fight.

I saw him die on our last try of sunday nite, we only saw phase 2 once and we killed him that time. Biggest problem will be getting into the flow of phase 1 some of it is a bit luck based, the rest is soaking, most deaths were down to people soaking with the debuff still on them. Just needs practice and I'm sure will have him down.

I'll chime in with some information about how we handled it last night.

We basically followed Tanla's nicely coloured ship diagram with the five different soaking zones, but we altered who soaked where slightly.

Since we had three melee DPS, we opted to tank both the melee adds on the same side of the ship, like we do on Normal mode. This way the melee DPS could hit both melee adds and one of the drakes as it was pulled in with the harpoon.

Soaking assignments were as follows (melee adds tanked at the edge of the ship in the green area, on top of the harpoon gun):

Green: The Slayer tank, who can move around freely, soaked this area solo. We had the Deathdealer facing towards the bow/front of the ship, and so didn't want to risk anyone else running through here and getting cleaved.
Blue: Two melee with good mobility covered this area.
Red: A healer and the remaining melee took the center. If there's a death knight, it's a good idea to keep him here, rather than further down the ship in Blue, for Death Grip purposes.
Yellow and Purple: Two ranged DPS, or a healer and a ranged DPS each, took the areas furthest from the melee adds. The ranged DPS will have trouble reaching the far drake, but it's important that they don't move out of their areas. If they can't reach their primary target, they should attack something else, rather than move too far.

Kill orders were Green/Blue side drake > Deathdealer > Slayer > Purple/Yellow side drake for melee, and Green/Blue side drake > Purple/Yellow side drake > Deathdealer > Slayer for ranged, with everyone poking the Sapper as soon as they can.

The Deathdealer tank was excused from any soaking, small puddles or big, due to the cleave. Everyone else should move to the big puddle.

This seemed to work nicely last night, although it could just have been a matter of all our practice finally bearing fruit. Either way, we reached phase two, and it was definitely some solid progress. The ship seemed to be OK for health, with at least 20% to spare, but there was a lot of fire in the way during phase two, so having it suffer less damage might still be good.

If we have fewer melee next time, we'd have to change the soaking assignments a bit, and could probably have one ranged and one melee in the Blue area, and the rest as before. That way the first drake should go down slightly quicker. We could even have two ranged there, and the melee covering the Red center area, but it just feels safer having one healer centrally located, and having the melee run in different directions.

Tx for this Vrug ^^ (and Moolsy, for making him do this prob :p )

We can have less or no fire at deck at all by carefully timing the last drake's death. Keeping that last drake alive till all the lazy NPC firemen have finally extinguished all the fires, then finish off the drake. And hoping that last drake won't spit out too many puddles anymore so we won't get the boat further past 20%.

It's good that we're extending the raid lockout so we can continue the progress ^^

Tx for the hints too Rommie, they will be integrated into our strats where possible and needed!

Yeah sorry I did ask him to do it. I had a family day yesterday so knew I would not have time. Plus he came up with who was soaking where, we do tend to come up with things together. He is a good RL in himself but seems to have a sudden bought of shyness since we moved to Easy. LOL

Another strat detail for the tanks:
MT with Dreadblade with Mdps stand on the utmost right cannon (close to blue), so Mdps can handle the puddles on the blue side.
OT with Slayer goes immediately to green side.
As soon as the Dreadblade is dead, the OT moves his Slayer to the cannon (close to blue) and the jobless MT takes over the green puddles.

Single target for the Mdps on de melee adds, otherwise the melee adds are not going down fast enough.
Dreadblade>Slayer>tank-side-drake

EDIT:

How about 4 zones.
Both tanks with Mdps in blue, the 2 center-people in green...

... and we need more DK's in the guild -_-

Also, everyone who can stun, on the backside of the ship (either in pink or blue), so they have more time to see the Sapper coming.

slight alteration to standard target sapper macro.
/tar twilight sapper
/run SetRaidTarget("target", 8)

if you have raid assist and spam this it will assign the skull icon to the sapper so we can see his short, red clothed arse in that huge swirling mass of fire.

No, same tactics as usual. We had 4 ranged which we split 2/2 for the drakes. Used hero on 3rd wave of drakes as that seemed at the time where we struggled most for that fight only. The healing seemed very easy (judging from health bars) once we were into P2, so we can probably kill boss quite fast and worry a bit less about simply staying alive.
Start every day off with a smile and get it over with.

Yep, healing through P2 was (relatively) easy compared to P1. All we need to do is last that far.
A couple of things I did notice: (i) there was often a little puddle at the same time as the big one which usually meant it got missed, and (ii) last night there seemed to be a lot of puddles right up near the door which got missed for being right on the edges/out of FOV.
