10 Man Algalon

Lets start with some strats to read and movies to watch and then move on to peoples observations from last night:

We knew he would hit like a truck and he did. Probably need to have 2 healers full time on the tank. Every time I tried to cast a wg on the raid Grey's health would drop sickenly low which made me think the 3 of us were trying to raid heal at the same time - on collapsing star damage. We will need tighter healing assigns probably 2 people on the tank at all times and 1 to come off the tank to cover collaping star and constallation damage on raid and then see how we go from there. Positioning is again important so as not to take too much damage from cosmic smash. We need to decide if off tank will kite constellations to a black hole or someone else - maybe a healer? Coming out of the shadow realm the tank needs immediate attention as he will be low on health.

The audio alerts from Algalon should be enough to warn us of collapsing stars, an impending big bang (8 sec cast) and of phase 2 starting:

Summoning Collapsing Stars:
The stars come to my aid.
Big Bang:
Witness the fury of cosmos!
Behold the tools of creation!

Phase 2:
Beware!

For tanks;

The main tank will be gaining stacking buffs from phase punch throughout the fight, stacking up to five times, which results in being phased out. Your are phased for ten seconds which if you get all original five will mean you are phased back in time to use your own tank save to soak the Big Bang. Someone must be left out to soak this to avoid Algalon ascending. On later Big bangs you will be phased back in time to recieve a external tank save from a raid member before they run into a void zone to escape the Big Bang.

The off tank should try his best to be second on the aggro table meaning that no taunt is needed when the MT is phased, which is an instant aggro wipe.

The constellations, while targetting a random raid memeber to follow will not always use arcane barrage on this particular memeber. So can either be kiting by the OT taunting them and using a black hole to get rid of them. Or the tartgetted member can kite them as the timing is otherwise very tight for the OT to do this with the MT being phased not long after the constellations appearing.

Once we get the Big Bang and phasing timing sorted, along with tank saves (internal and external) then the first 80% will be easier.

More to come on the last 20% when we get there....

About pallys and bubble during Big Bang.. If bubble also removes tanks threat from Algalon during bing bang and others are in "shadow realm", doesn't that mean that nobody has threat on him and he wipes raid because of that?

Yes.. But isn't tank staying outside to keep someone on his aggrotable?

Not divine shield that would wipe my aggro but my tank save bubble that doesnt wipe aggro, but reduces damage taken for a number of seconds.

Now here I can see some real use for a resto shaman ;) If the shaman more or less spam CH on the main tank he will also heal melee while helping the MT healer. Just a thought though not totally sure if its the right way to go.

Worth a try

Dealing with Phase Punch
Every 15 seconds, Algalon casts Phase Punch on his current tank. This ability deals about 11k arcane damage, but also applies a stack of the Phase Punch debuff. When this debuff reaches 5 stacks, the tank is phased out into the Shadow Dimension and Algalon switches to his next aggro target. Big Bang delays the cast of this ability by 10 seconds. If a Big Bang is cast between two Phase Punches, the total time will be 25 seconds instead of 15.

Because of this ability, there needs to be a tank rotation. Every interval, it works the same way:

1. The OT begins tanking (he initiates the pull in the first interval).
2. The OT tanks until he has 2 stacks of Phase Punch.
3. The MT calls a countdown and Taunts Algalon, tanking him until the end of the interval: about 60 seconds. He reaches 3 or 4 stacks of Phase Punch before Big Bang is cast.
4. While the MT tanks until the next Big Bang, the OT is free to pick up Living Constellation adds and use them to close Black Holes if there are too many open. During this time, his Phase Punch stack wears off naturally.
5. When Big Bang casts, the MT runs into portals with everyone else. The OT stays outside and receives cooldowns unless you are using the "shadow priest Big Bang" method.
6. After Big Bang, the OT now has no Phase Punch stacks, and he tanks again until he has 2 stacks of Phase Punch. At this point the MT's stack will have worn off naturally, and you go back to Step #3.

Bump.

It seems that people are still interested in killing Algalon, so - we should get more Starcaller titles for you all :) I know that many of you still want some achis for the drake, however, if we focus on killing him we'll have time later on to do other stuff you want to complete in Ulduar. So, if this raid goes on - please, let it be a quick run to Alagalon before everyone is tired. Achis and other Hard Modes can wait for after the fight, it lasts only an hour.

I hope you all know the fight by heart, but still, I'll write down some hints and make it all into a shorter version, from what I remember about the Destroyer.

1. Buy a lot of reagents, repair yourself, prepare real food, water and be done with bio before we start the raid. The timer won't allow for any breaks, we need to buff fast and start try after try asap. If possible, turn out the phone as well, we don't want any unnecessary calls during the fight :P And pray that the ISP won't fail this time. Done? Good.

2. There are two phases, the second one starts when the boss has 20% HP. The first phase consist of:
- the tank currently on Algalon gets beaten very hard, with Phase Punch every 15 s - after the 5th stack the tank gets shifted into the shadow realm. Zuzza has already beautifully explained how it goes in the previous post, so tanks - please reread it.

- every 25s he casts a Cosmic Smash on a random member of the raid, it is a aoe spell that activates after ca 4 seconds. Everyone has to move asap from the place it landed - it will give damage to all, but is reduced by the distance - the further from it, the better. If you stay in the circumcentre you're just blown into space ;) It's very hard to spot on the ground, it looks like a burning red dot, but it's essential to avoid it.

- there will be always 4 Collapsing Stars - every second they lose 1% of their HP, so - after 100 second they will just blow up, dealing ca 16k damage to all.

- after a Collapsing Star dies it creates a Black Hole, which enables us to move into the shadow realm. It's not clickable, it will just transport you if you stand in it. Therefore, if a Collapsing Star dies, be away from that spot, as it may accidentally move you to the shadow realm. No, we don't want that yet.

- the last ability is called Big Bang which is cast every 90 seconds, has a cast time of 8 second and simply has to be avoided. This is the only time when we run into a Black Hole and get teleported into a shadow realm. In there, you just strife away from those mobs (don't bother attacking them) and get constant dmg. Remember where Black Holes were up in the physical realm, cause when we return (automatically after some time) you may accidentally get back, and no, we don't want that to happen.

- to make the fight even more difficult there are Living Constellations and can be taunted and aggroed. They randomly attack raid member for ca. 4-5k dmg.

3. Having all those abilities in mind, we have several responsibilities for certain roles and classes in the raid.

TANKS:
- just as Zuzza described in the previous post, tank switch on the boss in regular manner. It'll be good to prepare a /rw macro or simply tell on the vent when you are switching so that the healers will start healing the other tank. He hits like a truck, really.
- The OT, after two stacks and a switch takes care of Living Constellations and moves with it so that it closes the Black Holes (preferably those that are furthest from the raid). It's good to keep two Black Holes open for the Big Bang (OT has to be careful not to run into an important Black Hole and close it accidentally).
- if we'll have a shadow priest this won't be a problem (Dispersing every Big Bang with the glyph), but normally OT stays for the Big Bang to happen and uses a cooldown (we will have to prepare a cooldown rotation, priests' GS and PS are helpful here as well), for example:
BB 1 - GS/PS
BB 2 - tanks our cooldowns, some HoTs and stuff
BB 3 (not sure if it'll happen with our dps now) - GS/PS again

THE KILLER OF STARS (nice title, eh? ;) )
- it's the most responsible role during this fight and it's usually a ranged - hunter, lock, mage are probably the best for it. He has to be vocal on vent - that's really important! He has to mark the Star he's currently nuking down and has to monitor all raid's hp (when the Star dies it gives ca 16k dmg, so it can't happen alongside Cosmic Smash!) and he has to call out that a star is going to explode, so that healers will know of inc dmg and people to move from the marked star (so that they won't shift into a shadow realm through newly appearing Black Hole). Three stars have to be killed this way, and the last one - marked as well, has to explode by itself (after reaching 1% hp) - during this time the Killer of Stars can focus on Algalon as well. He will summon more stars again, and the whole cycle repeats.

HEALERS:
- well, I did it with three healers, but it was half a year ago.. probably should be possible with two, but it's more stable with 3 - and dps will be surely good enough. Therefore - two healers stay on the tank, one on the raid. One of the tank healers can help offhealing the raid, it all depends how situation on tank looks like, I have no idea how it'll be with the gear we own now. Shadow resi aura still will be fine, and a Fire totem/aura as well. If we'll have a healing druid he can also help the OT to kite Constellations and close unnecessary Black Holes as heals should aggro them as well.

REST OF THE RAID:
- have to watch out for Cosmic Smashes (!!!), dying Stars [should be marked by the Killer] to avoid being sucked through the Black Hole, run before the Big Bang and nuke really hard.

4. Phase two beings when he reaches 20%. If we get here, he'll die for sure ;)
This phase usually starts just after the third BB (not sure again how it'll work with our gear now - maybe we'll do with two), and the MT has to taunt back when the phase starts (if he has cleared his own stacks - it needs to be "fresh" and ready). Everything disappears (no Stars, no Constellations, no existing Black Holes) and four Black Holes appear in every corner (so ppl have to be careful of where they're standing). From each of those an add appears (every 30s a new one) and has to be taken by OT. It's the time for cooldowns, heroism and other stuff - everyone nuke Algalon hard before we're overrun by adds.

And that's it. I do hope there will be more people interested in doing this fight, it's really amazing :)

I'm interested - and not just for the fact that it isn't ICC.
