Abilities

Gas Spore

Unleashes a Gas Spore, inflicting 2 random targets with a gaseous spore. The Spore will explode after 12 seconds, inflicting damage to all nearby friends. The damage from the Gas Spore builds the targets immune system, giving them a 25% resistance to the blight for 2 minutes. Stacks up to 3 times. (Instant. 18 seconds cooldown)

Gaseous Blight

The Gaseus Plague inflicts Shadow damage to all nearby players. (Instant)

Inhale Blight

Inhales the Gaseous Blight in the room, increasing damage dealt by 30%. (3.5 seconds cast. 15 seconds cooldown)

Pungent Blight

Violently releases the Gaseous Blight, dealing Large amounts of Shadow damage to all enemy players, releasing the deadly Blight back into the room. (3 seconds cast. 15 seconds cooldown)

Vile Gas

Inflicts a Vile plague in targeted area, inflicting damage every 2 seconds for 6 seconds. The plague causes the infected targets to vomit uncontrollably inflicting 3,900 to 4,100 damage to nearby allies. (Instant)

Important Facts

(1) The key to this fight is heavy DPS and getting everyon x3 stacks of Inoculated before Pungent Blast.

(2) Make sure the tank is in range to get hit with Blighted Spores from a Gas Spore infected player. If not, he will die to Pungent Blast. Best bet is to have the melee infected player move directly under the boss, as Festergut's hit box is very small.

(3) If by the off chance that a melee player is not hit with Gas Spore, have one ranged player run to the center of the boss to hit both the melee and the tank.

(4) RANGED & HEALERS STAY SPREAD OUT! 8-10yd range. You do not want multiple people hit with Vile Gas.

(5) GET BACK TO ORIGINAL POSITIONS AFTER YOU HAVE RECEIVED BLIGHTED SPORES! See (4).

(6) If the enrage timer remains at 5min, then it is recommended to ignore all spores after the second Pungent Blight. He will not have time to cast another one before his enrage.

(7) Use DR/Avoidance CDs during the 3rd Inhale period. Your tank will be taking massive damage during this time.

Overview

Gas is spread around the entirety of the room you fight Festergut in until it ends. Periodically he will Inhale this gas, eventually exhaling it all back into the room, instantly dealing 50,000 unmitigated damage to everyone in your raid. There are spore debuffs that once explode you can use to prevent part or all of this exhale damage. This strategy tries to minimize the amount of damage you take from the exhale while still leaving you as much DPS time as possible to beat the tight enrage timer.

Raid Composition
Tanks: 1-2
Healers: 4-5
Melee: 8-10
Ranged: 8-10

The fight involves Vile Gas, a Conflag-like AoE disorient ability, being thrown out to ranged raid members every 20 seconds or so during the encounter. It is assumed that like most abilities that prefer to only target ranged players, if not enough people are at a certain distance from Festergut he will begin targeting melee. Think General Vezax's Shadow Crash. Because of this it is probably wise to not stack too many melee, despite them having to do absolutely nothing but stand there and DPS the entire fight.

Strategy

Every 20 seconds or so, Festergut will cast Vile Gas on a ranged raid member. This will hit anyone in a 8 yard radius around the initial target, disorienting and leaving a heavy damage DoT ticking on all of you for the duration. Because of this it is very important that every stays around 10 yards from one another.

Around every 35 seconds, Festergut will mark three people in the raid with Gas Spore is similar to what you might find facing Loetheb in Naxxramas. After 12 seconds these marked players explode, dealing a small amount of damage but more importantly leaving an Innoculated buff on all who were hit by the explosion. This Innoculation stacks with itself, each stack preventing 25% of the exhale damage that would normally one-shot your entire raid.

When the three people are marked with Gas Spore, one should run on top of the melee and tank while the others form two ranged camps at different points in the room. By doing this, everyone in your raid will receive the Innoculation every time the Gas Spores explode, allowing you to avoid 100% of the exhale damage every time! However, you still have the Vile Gas to worry about. So the moment the Gas Spores explode, immediately race back to your original positions and re-confirm that you're not within 8 yards of one another. You should repeat this every time Gas Spores are thrown out: clump, spread, clump, spread, etc. Melee should always have a Gas Spore running on top of them, so they literally don't have to move at all from the moment you pull the boss.

Between exhales, called Pungent Blight, Festergut will Inhale the gas around the room three times. These Inhales come in 20-30 second intervals, and each one will reduce the raid-wide DoT players have for standing in the gas (unavoidable), as well as increasing the damage and attack speed of Festergut himself. By the third stack of Inhales, and before he exhales it about 20 seconds later, your tank will be hit like a truck. This is the time you will want to chain cooldowns, or if they aren't available yet for your MT, have an OT taunt and pop his or her's. Typically you will only need one tank timing their cooldowns wisely, but it never hurts to be safe.

Repeat the dance of clumping and spreading out, and try to keep everyone alive. In the 10/25 version you have exactly five minutes to kill Festergut before he enrages, and he has around 42 million health. You still have some time after the Enrage to kill him, as he doesn't melee during Inhales which have a cast time, allowing you to sort of kite him around for 30-45 seconds post-enrage.

General Tips

Never stop checking your Proximity to other raid members. People like to shift around a lot during the course of an encounter, so be vocal about people around you needing to move. If you're caught between a rock and a hard place, let your fellow raid members know so you can get a new spot and get back to doing your job.

Tank Tips

Save cooldowns for the period of time between the third Inhale and the exhale (Pungent Blight). It is around 20 seconds, so if you can't cover all 20 be sure to call for cooldowns from your fellow healers or to your fellow tank to taunt and pop their's.

Heal Tips

Whatever raid frames you use, be sure to add or highlight Vile Gas to them so you know who needs to be healed as soon as possible. The DoT it leaves will kill someone unattended. The constant steady damage the entire raid takes due to the gas in the room makes this an ideal fight for Resto Druids spamming HoTs, Priests' Prayer of Mending and Shield spamming, and Chain Heal. Your Paladins will want to concentrate on keeping your tank alive through the third Inhale. If you have to conserve mana until then and proceed to just bomb Holy Light for those 20 or so seconds. You may also want to keep track of who may have missed a third or fourth stack of Innoculation, so you can shield them before Pungent Blight is cast.

Melee Tips

When Gas Spores are thrown into the raid, be sure one runs on top of you, and if it was a ranged, runs out immediately after it explodes. Otherwise, there's nothing to watch out for. Just beat that Enrage timer!

Ranged Tips

Spread out. Spread out. Spread out. Watch for spores and move instantly to them and then away once they explode.

Common Problems

If you find your tanks just can't survive those third Inhales, assign healer cooldowns for every time it happens. If you can't beat the enrage, consider not having that backup second tank, and drop a healer or two. The only healing that has to be done aside from the tank are when people screw up and chain Vile Gas. So if you're fine with spreading out, then drop healers for DPS.

Some comments from last night's run.
  • The melee spore must go stand by the tank and everyone should move to stack on them. Not moving results in only a few people getting inoculated.
  • The AoE decrease with the 2nd and 3rd inhale - healing like crazy early and regenerating mana in later phases is probably sensible.
  • He hits like a truck in the 3rd inhale. Without my save he 1-shotted grey with a 45k hit, with my save he 1-shotted him with a 32k hit. Staggering the saves to last the full 20sec doesn't seem to be an option as one save wasn't save-y enough. Equally, we would likely be well short of the number of saves needed to last however many iterations over the fight.

Pro tip of the day:

Tanks
The period of time between the 3rd inhale and the exhale will be extremely high tank damage.

Two tanks are recommended. The main tank will need to use cooldowns like shield wall for the
first ~10 seconds and the offtank will need to taunt and use their shield wall for the second 10 seconds.

After the exhale, the main tank can taunt him back and resume tanking as normal.

I dare say the above can also be supplemented with healer saves.

Watching the 10 man vid it looks even easier for ranged, all you need is a minimum of 3 people to stay at range, if 2 ranged get the spore, 1 runs into melee etc.

Another tip is to have all healers under the boss so they dont get the 'Vile Gas' debuff.

How much money does George have?
